About Rhodes Island

In the border corner of Greece (and Europe as well), in the southeastern utmost of the Aegean is found the island of Rhodes. It is the biggest one of a group of islands, called Dodecanisa (Twelve Islands).

The islands have a parallel historical course, corresponding with the historical course of Greek archipelago, knowing periods of acne and decline. Their union with the national trunk became immediately afterwards the World War II and it constituted the historical compurgation of Greek residents of islands, that their presence in the islands is placed before thousands of years.

The island of Rhodes today constitutes one of the most important tourist destinations of Mediterranean. The climate, the natural beauty, the monuments, the history and the suitable tourist infrastructure attract millions of tourists from the entire world, lending in the island a cosmopolitan environment and a growing economy.

Rhodes is more than a modern tourist resort. It is know as the big naval force of antiquity, as the island of Colossus, as the island of Knights...

The city of Rhodes is the capital of the island. It was celebrated the 2400 years from its foundation. The two faces of the city - modern and medieval - are equally enchanting and impressive.

The medieval town finds itself through the ditch and the impressive wall with the rampant and the bastions. It maintains the character and the colour of medieval city with the stone private and public buildings, the narrow paved streets, the arches, all perfect maintained as it was 15th century. This is also the reason that the entire built-up total has been characterized as monument of world heritage and is protected from international conditions and organisations (UNESCO).

In the modern city one can meet the cosmopolitan atmosphere of tourist resorts with the beautiful harbour, the imposing public buildings, the big streets with the rows of trees, the parks, the beaches, the luxurious hotels, the rich commercial centre...
